Welcome to my site dedicated to the study of Ancient Roman Coins. This site is meant to be a resource for new collectors, but I hope everyone who visits might learn something new. I, myself, have always enjoyed Roman History and have only been collecting Roman Coins for just under a year, and this site and the following pages are a conglomeration of the information I have found through research and trial and error.
Without a doubt, the best source for researching and attributing Roman Coins is David R. Sear's Roman Coins and Their Values. This book has proven to be invaluable in my attempt to properly attribute the coins I have collected. This book, however, is sometimes difficult to attain, as it is currently out of print. The edition I use is from 1970, though 1988 is the most recent edition. You can sometimes find this book on auction sites, such as Ebay. I paid approximately $45 for my edition; much more than my first coin.
Another good resource for beginner is Wayne G. Sayles's Ancient Coin Collecting. This book comes in several volumes, and is currently available at most major bookstores, as well as on the web at Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.
This is by no means intended to be the authoritative source for collectors, but merely a starting point for the novice. If you should find any information here to be incorrect or out of date, please contact me so I may correct it as quickly as possible.
